Stentor is built so your scripts and your voice stay on your computer. This page says exactly what the app and this website collect, what is sent elsewhere and when, and what you can ask us to do.

  • Your work stays on your computer. Voicing happens there. Your scripts, recordings, voices and voiceovers are never uploaded by Stentor.
  • No account, and no analytics in the app. This website uses Google Analytics (below).
  • The trial and your licence use an anonymous code for your computer, never your name or files (below).
  • Optional tools only get what you send them, when you use them: your writing assistant, ElevenLabs and Hugging Face.
  • Your email is asked for when you download, and when you buy (by Razorpay, for the payment). News only if you tick the box.

What stays on your computer

Everything you make in Stentor is stored in a folder on your computer (~/Library/Application Support/Stentor): your scripts and their versions, your voice recordings and the consent recordings that go with them, voiceovers, settings and pronunciation rules. Keys for ElevenLabs and Hugging Face, and your Stentor licence, are stored in your computer's secure keychain. We can't see any of it.

The trial and your licence

To run the free trial and keep each licence to one computer, Stentor uses an anonymous code for your computer: a one-way scramble of its hardware ID. It can't be turned back into the ID, and it doesn't include your name, your files or anything you make.

  • Trial: during the beta there's no trial, and none of this is sent. From the first version that's on sale: when Stentor first opens, and when it starts while online, it sends this code and the date the trial began, so reinstalling doesn't restart it. We keep the code and that date.
  • Licence: when you enter your licence key, Stentor sends the key and the code to activate it on this computer. After that, it checks the licence when it starts and every few hours while you're online, so a refunded or moved licence stops working. We keep a scrambled form of your key (never the key itself), the code of the computer it's on, and when it was activated.
  • When you buy, we create your licence key and email it to you; we keep it with your order so we can resend it and turn it off if the purchase is refunded.

Buying Stentor

Payments are handled by Razorpay, our payment provider: they take the payment, under Razorpay's privacy policy. We never see your card or bank details. We get your email, your name and what you bought, to send your receipt and licence key, and to help you with your licence.

When something leaves your computer

Besides the licence checks above, only in these cases, and only because you chose to:

Downloading voice models

Models download from Hugging Face. Like any download, Hugging Face sees your IP address. If you sign in with Hugging Face to get a model that needs it, the download uses your account's token. Hugging Face's privacy policy applies.

Writing assistants (Claude Code and Codex)

When you use Enhance, Fix how it's said or Translate, Stentor runs Claude Code or Codex on your computer, signed in with your own plan. The text you're working on is sent to Anthropic or OpenAI by that tool, under your account and their terms: Anthropic's privacy policy, OpenAI's privacy policy. Stentor doesn't send it anywhere else. The writing assistant that runs on your computer sends nothing.

Checking for updates

Every few hours while it's open, Stentor downloads a small file from this website that says which version is the newest. It sends nothing about you or your work; like any request, the host (Cloudflare) sees your IP address.

Help improve Stentor (only if you switch it on)

It's off until you switch it on, in the first-run steps or in Settings › Privacy. When it's on, Stentor sends an anonymous report about once a day (sooner after a crash):

  • Sent: how long voicing took and with which model, errors and crashes (the kind of error and where in Stentor's code it happened, with anything in quotes and your file names taken out), and with an error the last 200 lines of Stentor's log from just before it (what it did, cleaned the same way; at most three a day, never while everything works), model downloads that failed, your Stentor and macOS versions, your computer's chip and memory, and a random code made for your copy of Stentor (not your licence).
  • Never sent: your scripts or any words you write, your voice, recordings or voiceovers, your email, name or file names.
  • We keep the country Cloudflare works out from the request, never your IP address. Reports are deleted after 90 days. Switching it off stops them straight away; Settings › Privacy › See what's sent shows the next report exactly as it will go.

ElevenLabs

If you connect your ElevenLabs key and voice a script with an ElevenLabs voice, the text being voiced is sent to ElevenLabs. If you choose Send to ElevenLabs on a voice you cloned in Stentor, that voice's recording is uploaded to your ElevenLabs account. ElevenLabs' privacy policy applies.

This website

  • No account. Google Analytics sets cookies for visitor statistics (below).
  • The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes basic request data (like IP addresses) to serve and protect it, and runs the invisible check on the forms that stops bots.
  • The download is served by the host that stores the file, which, like any download, sees basic request data such as your IP address.
  • Counting downloads: for each download (from this site, a download link, or an update in the app) we keep the date, the version, where it came from and the country Cloudflare works out from the request. We never keep your IP address. If you gave your email on the Download page, that download is kept with it. We also get a short email about each download or sign-up (your email if you gave one, and the country), so we can see how Stentor is doing.

Visitor statistics (Google Analytics)

This website uses Google Analytics to see which pages help people.

  • What it collects: pages viewed, roughly where from (country, city), the device and browser, the site that sent you, and when you start a download or ask to be notified. It sets cookies in your browser to tell visits apart.
  • Who processes it: Google, under Google's privacy policy, and it may be processed outside your country.
  • Not wanting it: install Google's opt-out add-on, or block cookies or trackers in your browser; the site works the same without them.
  • The Stentor app itself has no analytics.

Your email

  • When you download: we keep your email, whether Send me tips and news was ticked, and when you downloaded. News goes out only if the box was ticked, and every news email lets you stop it in one click.
  • Notify me (Windows, Linux): we keep your email and which systems you chose, to email you once when that version is ready.
  • To stop the forms being abused, we also keep a scrambled code made from your network's address for an hour, never the address itself.
  • To have your email deleted, write to [email protected].

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what we hold about you (your email, your computer's anonymous code and licence activation, and any emails you've sent us), correct it, or have it deleted, at any time: write to [email protected]. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR give you these rights and the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Stentor isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, for example if the app ever sends anything new, we'll say so on this site and in the app's release notes before it happens.
